Director Brett Ratner had to make drastic last-minute changes to the script of 2002’s Red Dragon when he discovered that he had mistakenly cast actress Emily Watson over then twelve-year old Harry Potter star Emma Watson. Ratner had wanted to showcase the “Frankenstein-esque” relationship between Ralph Fiennes’ character and the innocence he felt the young Watson represented. In the end, Ratner was “satisfied with the blind chick” approach to the story.
